Hash and checksum generator
Hash text or a file with the algorithms you choose, and check a download against the checksum its publisher gives. Files are read in pieces in your browser, so size is no limit and nothing is uploaded.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere
Checking a download
Choose the file, paste the checksum from the publisher’s site, and the result says whether they match. If the checksum and the file came from the same compromised server, a match proves little — the value of a checksum is highest when it comes from somewhere else, such as a signed release note.
Which algorithm should I use?
SHA-256 for almost everything; SHA-512, SHA-3 or BLAKE3 where a standard asks for them. MD5 and SHA-1 still work to spot accidental corruption, but anyone can craft two different files with the same MD5 or SHA-1, so never rely on them for security.
Is a hash the same as encryption?
No. A hash cannot be turned back into the input; it is a fingerprint. To keep something secret use the encryption tool; to store passwords use the password hashing tool, because plain hashes are far too fast to guess.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is read and hashed in your browser, and no request is made.
