IP address notation converter

The same IPv4 address can be written a dozen ways — as one number, in hex or binary, or inside an IPv6 address. Paste any of them to see all the others, and whether the form you have is ambiguous.

Dotted, integer, hex, binary, in-addr.arpa, or an IPv6 address with IPv4 inside (::ffff:…, 64:ff9b::…, 2002:…).

Why normalising matters

127.0.0.1, 2130706433, 0x7f000001, 0177.0.0.1 and 127.1 can all reach the same machine. A filter that compares text will miss most of them, which is why security checks should convert an address to one canonical form first — as this site does before any lookup.

Why would an address be written as one number?

Databases and some logs store IPv4 addresses as 32-bit integers because they sort and compare quickly, and range checks become simple arithmetic.

What is ::ffff:192.168.1.10?

An IPv4-mapped IPv6 address: how a dual-stack server shows a client that connected over IPv4. Web server and application logs often contain them.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser.
